Firefly is Whedon the next big TV show that is a huge success. It is likely that she left a lasting impression, because the one episode that she appeared on led to her becoming a star. Summer Glau played River Tam without difficulty. Glau was an excellent actress. As Tam her character, she was forced into government experiments in which she was being prepared to become the perfect assassin. Tam's ability to manage emotions was taken away from her. Glau was able to show off not only her acting skills, but her skills as a combat ace on Firefly. Glau's training as an assassin allowed her an opportunity to make use of the full range of athletic skills she has. Summer Glau is a classically educated ballerina. Summer Glau's dance skills encompass flamenco, tango and a variety of other styles. However, a fractured toe cut her off from performing. Firefly only lasted just one season, however it gained a huge fan following. Whedon was so enthralled by the show that he was able to return to the show a few years afterwards. Summer Glau was still getting quality work in the interim. She has appeared on television programs like Cold Case or CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
